This lent we are looking to give up to build up as we seek to raise $70,000 to be able to take responsibility for the First Baptist Church building. Starting tomorrow, we are inviting you to put aside what you’d normally spend on ‘extra’s’ and pledge it and give it by Easter Sunday. Durring a lenten fast we encourage you to pick out things you will go without Monday through Saturday (with a break from fasting on the Lord’s day)
STEP ONE
Here are examples of things to give up. The first step is to pray about what you’d give up and then calculate how much you spend on these things so you know what your pledge will be. We are inviting you to save up this money and then bring it to a special Easter Sunday offering for the building. Here are some examples of things you could give up. If you are not ready to pledge this Wednesday do what you can to do this by Sunday February 18th! Everyone is so different and different things get their tractor beam on our hearts, so even if its not on this list pray about it.
– 40 days of no Doordash/ Uber eats.. Look at the last 40 days to help you calculate. (same with every other thing)
– 40 days of no ‘retail therapy’ even if its like trips to cheap places like thrift stores, dollar tree, etc..
– 40 days of no amazon orders.
– 40 days of not ordering coffee out.
– 40 days of no cigars, cigarettes or vaping.
– 40 days of no beer, wine or spirits.
– 40 days of no soda, or take out.
– 40 days of nothing from the corner store, instead getting groceries ahead from somewhere like Aldi.
– 40 days of no phone games that cost money
– 40 days of pausing subscriptions like netflix, amazon & etc..
Ultimately this decision is between you and the Lord, but part of growing as a follower of the Lord is being a good steward of everything you have. For some this may be the kick in the but you need to start tracking how you spend money.
STEP TWO
Calculate what it is you will be giving up so you can build up the church. And make your pledge here below! We also will have cards at Church to do it physically. Just fill it out with pen , and put it in the offering box.
STEP 3
Pray about it and share it with 2-3 brothers or sisters in a place like men’s and women’s discipleship or with those God leads you to. Self-discipline doesn’t come easily and becomes way easier when we help each other out! Let all these ‘no’s’ you say to yourself this Lenten season be an oppertunity to say yes to Jesus our King! We understand some of us may be in a season that they can not participate in this way, but still share that in confidence with those you trust. If there is job issues, health issues, family issues, that are getting in the way, if your really struggling right now, understand we get it, and want to encourage and pray for you to get out of it!
