There’s a place for you to serve.
Serving is one of the ways we worship Jesus, grow as disciples, use the gifts God has given us, and care for our church and neighbors. Some roles are open to anyone ready to serve and learn. Other roles carry greater spiritual or organizational responsibility and are reserved for In-Covenant Members.
How serving works
Anyone can learn a role. Requirements determine when someone can officially hold a role, not whether they are welcome to learn, shadow, practice, or be discipled toward it.
Don’t know how? That’s okay. Most ministry roles can be learned. If you are interested and willing to be trained, we would rather help you grow into a role than assume you already know how to do it.
Pastors approve ministry leaders, and ministry leaders approve and care for the people serving on their teams. Feedback, training, encouragement, and check-ins are normal parts of serving.
If you cannot serve on a scheduled date, first try to find someone on your team who can switch with you. If you cannot find coverage, contact your ministry leader or coordinator.
Sunday ministry teams generally arrive by 11:00 AM and remain through the full 11:25 AM worship service, unless the role specifies otherwise. Offering Counters are the main exception to the early-arrival expectation.
You do not have to do everything. Some people can carry several responsibilities in one season, while others can faithfully carry one. Ministry leaders can help you discern what is realistic and healthy.
What we expect of ministry leaders
Anyone leading others in ministry must be a Covenant Partner. Ministry leaders participate in the monthly Ministry Prayer Night, develop recruitment plans for their teams, and help their people grow through feedback, encouragement, and accountability.
Sunday Worship
Help lead the church into worship with skill, humility, and spiritual attentiveness.
Worship Ministry Coordinator
Oversees scheduling, rehearsals, development, and the overall health of the worship ministry.
Role details
- Schedules worship leaders and musicians and keeps Sunday coverage healthy.
- Organizes Worship Team Leader meetings about every other month to work through Sunday scheduling and ministry needs.
- Schedules trainings and quarterly jam sessions where new musicians can play and sing with others and be developed toward the team.
- Looks for opportunities to bless other churches and worship alongside other believers.
- Develops new musicians and future worship leaders.

Worship Team Leader
Leads musically and spiritually with a daily life of worship, strong relational leadership, and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and the room.
Role details
- Build the setlist and communicate it to musicians ahead of rehearsal.
- Lead rehearsal and then lead the musicians and congregation on Sunday.
- Arrive by 11:00 AM for rehearsal and preparation and remain through the full service.
- Live a daily lifestyle of worship with a consistent Christian witness at home, work, online, in the neighborhood, and at church.
- Handle conflict gently, receive feedback, and know how to support someone else’s leadership.
- Sign the Safety, Marijuana, and Social Media policies.

Worship Team Musician
Play with the team, come prepared, and be open to discipleship. Rehearsals include prayer and Bible study as well as musical preparation.
Role details
- Arrive by 11:00 AM for rehearsal and preparation and remain through the full service.
- Listen to the setlist in the correct key and timing and practice before rehearsal.
- Participate fully in the prayer, Bible study, worship, and relational/spiritual parts of rehearsal.
- Be teachable and willing to grow musically and spiritually.

Tech Ministry
Help Sunday worship run clearly and reliably behind the scenes.
Tech Team Coordinator
Schedules and develops the team across camera, livestream/live audio, in-house audio, and presenter/slides.
Role details
- Make sure every Sunday tech position is scheduled and covered.
- Keep the tech area tidy, organized, and ready to use.
- Keep learning the church’s tech systems and train new tech volunteers.
- If a scheduled volunteer cannot find a switch, the coordinator helps find coverage or fills in when possible.
- Covenant Partner required.
Tech Team Member
Be faithful on assigned days, teachable, curious, and willing to learn and grow in production.
Role details
- Arrive by 11:00 AM and remain at the assigned tech position through the full service.
- Use the pre-service time to prepare equipment and listen to the Worship Team rehearsal so you know the songs and flow.
- Learn the whole tech setup over time rather than only one narrow station.
- Attend occasional training and keep growing in competence.
- If you cannot serve, first try to find someone on the team to switch with you.
- Covenant Partnership is not required.
Hospitality
Prepare the building, welcome people well, pray, notice guests, and help newcomers connect.
Hospitality Coordinator
Owns scheduling, coverage, training, newcomer follow-up, and New to Epiphany gatherings.
Role details
- Own the schedule, training, and Sunday coverage for Hospitality.
- Ensure welcome bags, Connect Cards, mints, signage, and other hospitality supplies are stocked and ready.
- Ensure weekly attendance is taken and recorded.
- Own the newcomer follow-up process and organize New to Epiphany gatherings.

Hospitality Team
Help make Epiphany physically and spiritually ready to receive people.
Role details
- Arrive by 11:00 AM to prepare the building and remain through the full service.
- Pray over doors, pews, entrances, elevators, and the people who will come.
- When weather permits, welcome people outside for roughly the first 15 minutes after the 11:25 AM service begins.
- Actively approach unfamiliar people and help them find bathrooms, elevators, seating, kids areas, and other spaces.
- Wait until the sermon begins to take attendance so late arrivals are included.
- Make sure completed Connect Cards get to the appropriate follow-up/Admin person that Sunday.
- Covenant Partnership is not required.
Prayer Team
Pray for people with faith, humility, training, and accountability.
Prayer Team Coordinator
Oversees scheduling, training, practice sessions, development, and readiness for prayer ministry.
Role details
- Ensure trained Prayer Team coverage for Sunday ministry prayer.
- Oversee training, practice sessions, observers, and ongoing development.
- Maintain the Prayer Team Slack channel for ministry opportunities, training, encouragement, team needs, and Friday fasting reminders.
- Regularly check in with team members, especially after difficult or unusual prayer appointments.
- Work with the elders to discern when someone is ready to lead prayer appointments.

Prayer Team Member
Minister using Epiphany’s 5-Step Prayer Model at the altar and in prayer appointments.
Role details
- Arrive by 11:00 AM and meet in the conference room to pray together before the 11:25 AM service.
- Follow Epiphany’s 5-Step Prayer Model at the altar and in prayer appointments.
- Maintain a lifestyle of worship, humility, fasting, and ongoing growth.
- Fast at least one meal on Friday during weeks you are scheduled to serve.
- Stay engaged with Prayer Team Slack and ongoing training and feedback.
- Generally remain available for ministry prayer after the service when people still need prayer, while recognizing availability varies.
- Training pathway: Intro Training → Practice Training → Observer → Approved Prayer Team Member.
- Observers may participate only as invited by the approved person leading the appointment.
- Every Prayer Team member must be a Covenant Partner.
Finance
Serve with integrity, accuracy, and accountability in the stewardship of church finances.
Finance Team Leader / Bookkeeper
Currently one person carries both leadership and bookkeeping responsibilities.
Role details
- Coordinate offering counters and the annual budget-building process.
- Enter income and expenses, reconcile accounts, pay bills, maintain records, and produce regular reports.
- Monitor the budget throughout the year and flag significant variances or unusual financial activity.
- Handle year-end financial reporting and provide financial information needed for taxes, payroll, denominational requirements, accountants, or other required reporting.
- Work is reviewed by the Finance Team and pastors.

Offering Counter
Count offerings accurately and accountably.
Role details
- Count offerings accurately with two people together at all times.
- Record the totals and prepare the offering for deposit.
- Responsibility ends once the deposit is prepared.
- No 11:00 AM arrival requirement specifically for counting.

Budget Builder
Help leadership develop the church’s yearly budget.
Role details
- Understand that the church budget is a statement of what we believe and value.
- Be careful, responsible, and thoughtful with finances.
- Review the prior year’s actual spending before helping build the next budget.
- Help the Finance Team and pastors build the annual budget around ministry priorities and realistic numbers.

Youth Ministry
Help teenagers follow Jesus, belong to the church, grow in their gifts, and stay engaged.
Youth Group Pastor / Elder
Provides spiritual leadership and overall direction for Youth Ministry.
Role details
- Set the spiritual direction and overall vision for Youth Ministry.
- Develop adult leaders and oversee teaching and doctrine.
- Shepherd students and stay connected with parents.
- Keep Youth Ministry integrated into the larger life of Epiphany.
- Oversee the annual Youth calendar, including retreats, trips, special events, service opportunities, and breaks.

Youth Parent Communication
Keeps parents informed about schedules, events, permission forms, transportation, cancellations, and reminders.
Role details
- Use group and individual messaging to keep parents informed.
- Collect RSVPs, permission forms, transportation information, and other needed responses.
- Follow up when a student has been absent or disconnected.
- Personally follow up when parent responses are still missing.
- Elevate pastoral, family, or significant student concerns to the Youth Elder.

Minister of Fun
Plans engaging activities each week, gets needed supplies, recruits help, and keeps youth activity supplies organized.

- Help students plan, schedule, and gather needed supplies so they are ready to lead.

Youth Group Teacher
Teaches and disciples students under the direction and oversight of the Youth Elder.

- Prepare your own lessons with guidance and help from the Youth Elder.

- Be a Youth leader, not just a guest teacher: build relationships, participate in activities and prayer, and be present with students.

Youth Worship Leader
Trains and disciples teens to increasingly lead worship themselves, occasionally leading alongside them.
Role details
- Empower students to lead worship rather than doing worship for them.
- Organize rehearsal and practice time with students.
- Coach instruments, vocals, transitions, teamwork, and leadership.
- Gradually transfer responsibility to students as they grow.
- Teen musicians and student worship participants do not need to be Covenant Partners.
- The adult Youth Worship Leader must be a Covenant Partner and serve under the Youth Elder.
Youth safety: Every adult working with minors completes the required background check and child/youth safety training and signs the Safety, Marijuana, and Social Media policies. Teens may serve as assistants and mature older teens may teach under oversight, but no teen or adult volunteer is left solely responsible for children.
Sunday School & Catechism
Teach the faith, love kids well, and create a safe place for children to learn and grow.
Sunday School Leader
Leads Sunday School overall: scheduling, curriculum, supplies, parent communication, teacher development, safety, and behavior policy.

Sunday School Teacher

- Manage normal classroom behavior and follow safety and behavior policies.
- Bring significant or recurring behavioral, spiritual, or safety concerns to the Sunday School Leader.
- Complete required background check, child-safety training, and applicable policies.
- Ordinarily participate in the main worship gathering at least two additional Sundays that month.

Sunday School Assistant
Assist the teacher with classroom needs, activities, safety, and behavior. Teens may serve as assistants.

- Teens may serve as assistants, and mature older teens may sometimes teach under oversight.

Catechism Teacher
Teach the foundations of the Christian faith through the Nicene Creed, Lord’s Prayer, and Ten Commandments.

- Serve students roughly in grades 4–7, bridging Sunday School and Youth Group.

Maintains food-source and donor relationships, coordinates pickups or purchases, and ensures enough food is available.

Food Safety Compliance & Reporting
Oversees safe storage and handling, keeps required records, and completes reporting for food partners or applicable programs.

Develops outreach strategy and ideas, identifies neighborhood festivals and community opportunities, and keeps the ministry moving.

Follows the plan developed by the pastors, gathers people, checks in, facilitates discussion and prayer, and helps create a hospitable group culture.

Weddings & Funerals
Help families and couples navigate the practical details of important church moments.
Wedding & Funeral Coordinator
Works under the pastors to coordinate the practical and logistical side of weddings and funerals.
Role details
- Serve as the main practical/logistical point of contact for the couple or family once assigned.
- Coordinate building use, setup, cleanup, Tech, Worship, Hospitality, food/reception needs, and volunteers.
- Maintain a repeatable checklist/process so important details are not reinvented each time.
- Pastors retain responsibility for pastoral care, counseling, ceremonies, and spiritual leadership.
