God doesn’t want you to avoid any of these areas, it’s ok to admit one is more easier than another, that’s why we need each other.
1. Form real friendships where you can share your secrets and confess your sins, share with trusted friends who will pray for you and tell you the truth.
2. Develop a habit of spending time with God alone. Read/listen to the scriptures every day, and learn how to pray. Put to practice what the Holy Spirit convicts you to do! Don’t just just stuff your head full of knowledge you don’t act on.
3. Don’t idolize or ignore your health. It will be hard to be useful, happy, and effective in your faith if you completely ignore your physical and emotional health. Being hormonally balanced, and having energy, moving your body and sleeping well is all going to powerfully affect your spiritual life. But don’t idolize your health either, we are sojourners, CH Spurgeon once said God is looking for living sacrifices not fine specimens. Let’s keep this vessel healthy enough to serve us (as much as we can, this isn’t always in our control), but let’s not be so focused on our health, that it becomes our master, and we drift from His eternal mission, skip loving on our family, and just develop a selfish and shallow faith that doesn’t radically lay our lives down for the Lord and others…
4. Prioritize Sundays. Don’t make it solely about you and what you get out of it. In a healthy marriage, some dates, some weekends, some trips will stand out, but it’s the daily breaking bread together that makes you married not just the exceptional experiences. Teach your kids, this is just what we do. Let Church be the reason you have to cancel out on other priorities in life, not the other way around.
5. Be filled with the Holy Spirit and speak. It could be in evangelism, or the encouragement of a brother or sister. The pattern for a growing Christians is to ask God to lead them and be filled with His Spirit’s love and power, to speak in a unique and on time way to somebody. This isn’t just for some, everyone get’s the ball. Learn to follow His leading, depend on Him and take risks.
